true love

Dear reader,

Just a couple of quick thoughts I would like to jot down.

true love (tr-oo   l-u-h-v) noun:

I don't deserve it, but God let His innocent baby boy take the death penalty for my wickedness.

Jesus is the Prince of Peace. He's my Prince and far better than prince charming. I may be a Sleeping Beauty waiting for my prince, but my Prince of Peace is waiting for me to give Him my life because He gave His quite literally.

I'm going to give God the best years of my life, and by doing so I will give Him all my life since it will all be the best with Him.

Sincerely,
Nun the wiser

Hiatus

Dear blogosphere,

I will be officially taking a break from blogging for a little while. Things are getting pretty busy at work and school. Hope y'all understand.

I leave you for a little while with a new fave verse:

Romans 13:12 (NIV)

"The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light."

Sincerely,
a modern nun

Testing, testing 1-2-3...

Hey reader,

As I have been previously mentioning, I've gone back to the basics to grow more as a Christian. You have to start somewhere, and when you're in a slum it's been to re-trace your steps. So.. Step 1: Bible Memory Verses.
The three verses that I have stated in previous blog posts as my memory verses are safely tucked away in my brain now. Just to test myself... the following verses are typed from memory:

Philippians 4:8 KJV (or nkjv?)
"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."

1 Corinthians 1:18 Amplified
"For the story of the cross is shear absurdity and folly to those who are perishing and on their way to perdition, but to us who are being saved it is [the manifestation] of the power of God."

Joshua 1:9 KJV
"Have not I commanded thee,
be strong and of good courage,
be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed,
for the LORD thy God is with thee
whithersoever thou goest."

WOOHOO, I think... let me double check real quick.. one second... ... ... ok, so
Phil.4:8 is KJV and
1Cor.1:18 says "the story AND MESSAGE" and shear is actually spelled SHEER in this instance and the brackets include the word "of'" and
I might have messed up the punctuation in Josh.1:9...
but I think this still calls for a hearty WOOHOO!!!

This isn't the end. I'll still keep memorizing more. I just haven't decided on the next one.
I'm open for suggestions for new memory verses!!! I'd love to hear what scripture has made an impact on you! Leave a comment below! PLEASE AND THANK YOU!!!

And for my less-than-One-Year-Bible-challenge:

New Verse For My Blog!

Hello cyberspace!

Your favorite blogging nun here. I just wanted to share a verse that I found while reading for my less-than-a-One-Year-Bible-challenge. (For an explanation of this challenge see my blogpost: http://vowsofamodernnun.blogspot.com/2013/05/sorry.html ) It struck a bell with me as a "nun."

"So will I sing praise unto thy name for ever, that I may daily perform my vows." Psalm 61:8 (KJV)

Being a "nun" (aka: a young woman who has made certain vows to God as to how she will live for Him) is a daily choice. It's not easy. It never was and never will be, but I will try my hardest to sing praises to Him everyday anyway.

Sincerely,
Sister Bethany

new memory verse

I'm adding a new verse to my brain and heart. This one I'm sure is one of those I learned as a kid for a grade and then quickly forgot.

Joshua 1:9 KJB
"Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest."

As I promised, here is where I am in my less-than -One Year Bible-challenge:
March 17

Memory Verses and Accountability

As I previously mentioned, I'm trying to re-commit scripture to memory.

Here we go:

Philippians 4:8 (KJV)
"Finally, brethren,
whatsoever things are TRUE,
whatsoever things are HONEST,
whatsoever things are JUST,
whatsoever things are PURE,
whatsoever things are LOVELY,
whatsoever things are of GOOD REPORT;
if there be any VIRTUE,
and if there be any PRAISE,
THINK ON THESE THINGS."

My inspiration: a Dayspring school folder that I own. They have it as a free desktop background too, http://ecards.dayspring.com/freestuff/Whatever/

1Corinthians 1:18 (Amplified)
"For the STORY AND MESSAGE OF THE CROSS is sheer absurdity and folly to those who are perishing and on their way to perdition,
but to us who are being saved it is THE [MANIFESTATION OF] THE POWER OF GOD."

(In the Amplified Bible, brackets [ ] signal words that were added for clarification but are not in the original text.)

Sorry

Dear reader,

Sorry that it's been so long since I've blogged (although I think the only ones who actually ever read my blog are my parents). A lot has happened since I last posted. I'm now a graduate student attempting to get a masters degree in materials engineering.
( to learn more about my field of study: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Materials_science )

It's been a complete overhaul of my life. I've discovered a few things about my self along the way. I won't bore you with the details, but I've felt that I've been not growing as a Christian lately. This stagnant living has taken many of my fellow believers captive all around the world and is a very dangerous place in which to be. To combat this, I have decided to fall back on the basics.
Step #1:  scripture memory. Some of these verses being memorized are new favorites while most, unfortunately, are ones that I learned long ago and forgot the moment I had to recite them for a grade.

I may not have time right now in graduate school to blog, but I would like to share the verses with you all that I'm attempting to commit wholly and holy to my brain and heart.
Feel free to suggest your favorite verses.

On another note, my New Years Resolution this year was to finally read the Bible in one year. I'm using an old One Year Bible that I've had since I was a kid. As any New Years Resolution goes, when February came... well, you know. So I decided to make it a New Years Resolution CHALLENGE! I'm challenging myself to read the whole Bible in LESS than a year. So far... I'm REALLY behind.
So along with my scripture memory verses, I would like to post where I am in my One Year Bible for accountability purposes.

This may not be what I originally planned for this blog, but please bear with me as I try to catch up... in more ways than one.

Sincerely,
Bethany
